Olivia R. Powell
Hi there! My name is Olivia R. Powell, and I'm a writer, Storyteller and experience designer. I tend to wander across and between narrative mediums (fiction, theater, XR, film), experimenting with writing, story and experience design as I wonder what else stories can be and do.

My works have been described as “the bedtime stories that we forgot to tell” and reflect a kind of storytelling that is at once nostalgic and imaginative, critical and questioning. I think a lot about the stories I grew up with and how these stories have reflected, influenced, shaped and reinforced my sense of what's possible in the "real" world. This makes me think of the stories I wish I had growing up and the stories I want to help create for generations in the future.

In my explorations, I often approach stories as spaces and consider how we inhabit these spaces as writers, readers, tellers, listeners and co-creators. I strive to create (with) story development processes that are experimental, instinctual, imaginative and accessible.
I earned my Masters in digital storytelling design at the Royal College of Art in London and my BA in Film & Media at Dartmouth College in the US. I have worked with the Guild of Future Architects and am an active member of Columbia School of the Arts' Digital Storytelling Lab, collaborating on pioneering storytelling projects such as Blockchain Fairytales.

she/her/hers
what else can stories be and do?
VIII.

...or when the world
shatters
because in one frame
a child is playing by the sea,
alive—
in your mind at least—
falling through memory
and time.
But in another frame,
it is a Monday night
and the pots and pans
need washing,
and nothing is happening.
Just the world.
Just time.
